Augsburg in 1750: under the publisher and printmaker Martin Engelbrecht a great number of so called perspektive theaters or dioramas were offered consisting of six or sometimes even seven cut out sheets.

The perspective theaters were produced in three different sizes: the largest called quarto, the medium sized octavo and the smallest duodez. The subjects covered a huge range of topics: biblical scenes, cityscapes, allegories, World Wonders, exotic scenes like pearl divers or Indians. Its spread was enormous. These sets still appear regularly in auctions worldwide and are coveted collector's items.

Alberto Milano has worked many years on this directory of perspective theaters of Martin Engelbrecht, thus creating this important reference work.
